The remains of the Siberian Ice Maiden have been distinguished as unique through the cultural and religious decorations found alongside the human remains. An outstanding burial site conveying a true depiction of life at this time, showing the world their spirituality and their devotion towards manifesting beauty into the physical realm.
When the Ice maiden was found in 1993, people grew fond of the uniquely tattooed woman and her strange tradition of burial. Items were found in this burial site suggesting trade with countries as far as Persia. Although much media attention was brought forth through the beauty of this find, there has been much controversy towards the actions of the Russian government. After the excavation of the Siberian Ice Maiden, the woman was taken to a laboratory to run tests on and intended for preservation, the body was also damaged during transportation. Through the requests of the shamans the Altai community demanded the remains to be returned to its sacred area. These people claimed since the remains were separated from its origin terrible events have followed. They pointed out the recent earthquakes.
The people fought hard in order for the remains to be reunited with its people. Unfortunately the remains have not been returned to the tribe that still practice there ritual rites.
"People say the failure to rebury the mummy has brought a string of misfortunes and I respect their opinions, It is not only a question of earthquakes, but there is a rising incidence of suicide and sickness.
"I respect science but we are nomads not scientists and every people has the right to its own level of understanding. Only by reburying the mummy can we lay the spirits to rest and calm people's fears."
